ENUGU STATE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT WARNS AGAINST BUSH BURNING AS DRY SEASON SETS IN

The Enugu State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has issued a stern warning to residents as the harmattan season takes hold, cautioning that indiscriminate bush burning remains a criminal offence under state law. The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Prof. Ugwu, highlighted the dangers posed by uncontrolled fires, noting that they are a leading cause of fire outbreaks during the dry season. He explained that bush burning for purposes such as hunting, land clearing, the use of fireworks, and the careless disposal of cigarette butts often ignite wildfires that threaten lives, property, and the environment. According to the Commissioner, such acts cause significant destruction every year and contravene the provisions of the Enugu State Environmental and Climate Protection Law. Engr. Ogbuekwe Highlights Enugu’s Bold Move on Clustered Farming and Market Access

Engr Mike Ogbuekwe   Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, the Managing Director/CEO of the Enugu State Marketing Company and Special Assistant to Gov. Peter Mbah on Agriculture, has emphasized the state government’s active drive for clustered, mechanized farming and structured distribution of farm produce across Enugu State. Ogbuekwe made this known in an interview, describing the initiative as a “two-pronged strategy” that enables both smallholder and large-scale farmers to operate efficiently, share resources, and engage in cooperative or out-grower and in-grower models. He explained that the Farm Estates, which cover 52,000 hectares across the state, provide each ward with 200 hectares cleared, fenced, and equipped with security and warehouse facilities, while plots of one hectare are allocated to community farmers and large-scale commercial farmers access land through the state’s land bank. CSC Chairman Lauds Gov Mbah on Regular Salary Payments as 856 Workers Take CBT Promotion Exams

The Chairman of the Enugu State Civil Service Commission (CSC), Mr. Robinson Odo, has said that Governor Peter Mbah is neither owing civil servants salaries nor promotion arrears, declaring that the administration was up-to-date since assuming office in 2023. Odo made the disclosure at the weekend during the conduct of the 2025 civil service promotion examinations, where no fewer than 856 senior officers, including those in the management cadre, sat for computer-based tests (CBT) as part of the promotion process. Speaking at the Digital Learning Centre, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, venue of the examinations, the chairman described the exercise as seamless, transparent and a significant milestone in the state’s transition to a fully digital public service. Enugu Gov't Approves Construction, Reconstruction of 1,022 Urban Roads

The Enugu State Government has approved the construction and reconstruction of 1,022 urban roads in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s target to pave all the roads in Enugu metropolis before the end of his first term in office. This was made known at the end of the Enugu State Executive Council meeting at the weekend. Briefing Government House correspondents, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo; Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Enugu Earmarks N10bn for Phase 1 of 135.4km Rail Project

_Plans to add additional 14 planes to Enugu Air_ _Car Assembly, Enugu Airport Concession to get N10bn each_   The Enugu State Government says it has earmarked the sum of N10bn in the 2026 budget as the state’s equity contribution to the first phase of the 135.5km standard gauge rail it plans to build in the state.   This was made known during a press briefing by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Barr. Chris-Roberts Ozongwu at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Enugu, on Thursday. Recall that Mbah had on December 2, laid a N1.62Trn 2026 budget, christened “Budget of Renewed Momentum” before the Enugu State House of Assembly. The budget figure, which is a South East record and a 66.5 per cent increase over the N971bn revised 2025 budget, comprises N1.3Trn Capital Expenditure, representing 80 per cent of the total budget and N321.2bn Recurrent Expenditure, representing 20 per cent of the budget.
