Gov Mbah Rolls Out Compactors, Automated Road Sweepers, Others to Keep Enugu Clean

Riding on the crest of Enugu State’s emergence as the cleanest state and winner of the maiden Renewed Hope Model Green State Award in 2025, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has unveiled the state’s newest environmental cleanliness and sustainability assets, insisting that a clean city is a healthy and competitive city ready for growth. Equipment unveiled include 10 brand new waste compactors, seven automated street sweepers, and 200 modern dumpsters. ENUGU STATE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT WARNS AGAINST BUSH BURNING AS DRY SEASON SETS IN

The Enugu State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has issued a stern warning to residents as the harmattan season takes hold, cautioning that indiscriminate bush burning remains a criminal offence under state law. The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Prof. Ugwu, highlighted the dangers posed by uncontrolled fires, noting that they are a leading cause of fire outbreaks during the dry season. He explained that bush burning for purposes such as hunting, land clearing, the use of fireworks, and the careless disposal of cigarette butts often ignite wildfires that threaten lives, property, and the environment. According to the Commissioner, such acts cause significant destruction every year and contravene the provisions of the Enugu State Environmental and Climate Protection Law.
