Nigeria Links Academic Research Database to NYSC Participation – Alausa

The Minister made the announcement during the 2026 National Capacity Building Programme on the NERD policy in Abuja, where officials discussed the implementation of the national academic repository. According to Alausa, the NERD platform has already archived nearly 100,000 student submissions within four months of operation. The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Nasir Sani- Gwarzo mni, has reaffirmed his dedication to advancing technical skills development through the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). Represented by Dr Isa Abubakar, the Director of ICT department of the Ministry held discussions with the Indian Professional Forum (IPF), led by Mr Kailash Gaijar, to address implementation challenges and how to scale up the initiative. Dr. Gwarzo reiterated the Ministry’s focus on preparing students for industry demands through skill acquisition. "We aim to create a system that equips students with the competencies needed for the workforce," he stated, citing insights from India’s exemplary skill development centres.
