Nigeria Links Academic Research Database to NYSC Participation – Alausa

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Morufu Olatunji Alausa, has announced that compliance with the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) policy will now be required for graduates seeking participation or exemption from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Minister made the announcement during the 2026 National Capacity Building Programme on the NERD policy in Abuja, where officials discussed the implementation of the national academic repository. According to Alausa, the NERD platform has already archived nearly 100,000 student submissions within four months of operation. The system has also onboard more than 350 institutions, with over 133,000 students and about 6,800 lecturers currently enrolled. Undergraduate Students Can Register for 2026 UTME and Direct Entry, JAMB Clarifies

This was in a clarification signed and issued by the Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, emphasizing that candidates must declare their existing admission status during registration. The disclosure is mandatory for record and regulatory purposes and ensures that no candidate holds multiple admissions concurrently. The Chairman of the Enugu State Civil Service Commission (CSC), Mr. Robinson Odo, has said that Governor Peter Mbah is neither owing civil servants salaries nor promotion arrears, declaring that the administration was up-to-date since assuming office in 2023. Odo made the disclosure at the weekend during the conduct of the 2025 civil service promotion examinations, where no fewer than 856 senior officers, including those in the management cadre, sat for computer-based tests (CBT) as part of the promotion process. The training is a preparatory move ahead of the resumption of Smart Green Schools across the state, set to begin in September 2025. The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Nasir Sani- Gwarzo mni, has reaffirmed his dedication to advancing technical skills development through the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). Represented by Dr Isa Abubakar, the Director of ICT department of the Ministry held discussions with the Indian Professional Forum (IPF), led by Mr Kailash Gaijar, to address implementation challenges and how to scale up the initiative. Dr. Gwarzo reiterated the Ministry’s focus on preparing students for industry demands through skill acquisition. "We aim to create a system that equips students with the competencies needed for the workforce," he stated, citing insights from India’s exemplary skill development centres. Dr. Gwarzo emphasized that technical and vocational education  training (TVET), remains a top priority in Nigeria's education reforms.
