ENUGU ON THE RISE AS GOV. MBAH UNVEILS MIDTERM TRANSFORMATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS ACROSS SECTORS

Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on Thursday presented his midterm performance report, outlining wide-ranging achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and economic growth.

The governor made the presentation during a civic reception at Okpara Square, Enugu, as part of activities marking his second anniversary in office.

Addressing a large audience of dignitaries and citizens, His Excellency declared that over 800 kilometers of roads had been constructed to link farms, markets, schools, healthcare centres, and industrial zones, thereby expanding access and opportunities across Enugu State.

Gov. Mbah revealed that five strategic ultra-modern transport terminals at Holy Ghost (Terminals 1 and 2), Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka, have all been completed and are ready for commissioning to boost urban and intercity transit.

In the education sector, Gov. Mbah stated that 33 percent of the state’s annual budget has been devoted to education, surpassing global benchmarks, adding that 260 Smart Green Schools featuring digital whiteboards, solar powered classrooms, and science laboratories will soon be rolled out as part of his administration’s education reform.

As regards healthcare, Gov. Mbah announced the ongoing construction of 260 fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centres in each ward, with residential quarters for medical personnel, clean water supply, and solar-powered systems. “No mother in Enugu should ever again fear childbirth due to distance or neglect,” he emphasized.

Gov. Mbah said his administration has strengthened security by launching a Command and Control Centre and deploying 150 AI-enabled patrol vehicles, which have contributed to a significant drop in violent crime and enhanced public safety across the state.

In the area of the economy, His Excellency noted impressive growth, stating that Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) had increased by over 600 percent, driven by revived assets, improved ease of doing business, and a new agro-industrial strategy.

He further stated the creation of a 300,000-hectare Landbank for commercial agriculture and 200-hectare farm estates across all 260 wards to boost production for local consumption and export.

To modernize public transport, Gov. Mbah said 200 CNG-powered buses and 2,000 city taxis have been procured, alongside the introduction of an electronic ticketing system to make transportation more affordable and efficient.
“We have only just begun. Everything you see today is a foundation for what Enugu will become tomorrow,” he stated.

Additional milestones include the completion of the Enugu International Conference Centre and the unveiling of Enugu Air, a regional airline designed to strengthen Enugu’s global and economic connectivity.

Earlier in the day, a thanksgiving Mass was held at the Government House Chapel to commemorate the anniversary.

The civic event attracted notable personalities who applauded the governor’s achievements, such as Former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, who praised the transformations under Gov. Mbah, saying: “No other state has done what Enugu has done. Everyone knows you are doing well.”

Philanthropist and oil magnate, Engr. Arthur Eze, described His Excellency as a divine gift to Igbo land: “When I came into the city, from the airport to the city, I noticed he has changed the whole Enugu.”

Also in attendance were Former governor of Enugu State, Chief Sullivan Chime, the State's Deputy governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, and Hon. Nnoli Nnaji of the House of Representatives amongst others who pledged continued legislative support.

Similarly, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, former Labour Party governorship candidate, alongside fellow returnees, reaffirmed their commitment to Gov. Mbah, saying, "We commit ourselves once again to PDP and the ideals of the party. We will fight for our governor to the end.”
